Yandex Disk on Mac & Windows in 2026: Client, WebDAV or Not
If you want Yandex Disk on a Mac or a Windows PC in 2026, you have four routes. The official desktop app still exists, but downloading, uploading and syncing now need a paid Yandex 360 plan. WebDAV, which used to be the free workaround, is also tied to a Yandex 360 plan since June 22, 2026. The web version at disk.yandex.com stays free. Beyond that there are third-party tools that talk to Yandex Disk's API: rclone for power users, and file managers with Yandex Disk built in, including X-Filer, the app we make. This guide covers what each route does, what it costs and where it breaks, as of October 2026.
What changed for the desktop app in June 2026
Yandex Disk gives every account 5 GB of free storage, and for years the desktop app was free too: install it, sign in, and your Disk appeared as a synced folder.
That ended in early June 2026. The Russian business daily Kommersant reported on May 20 that from June 3, Yandex would switch off cloud sync in the desktop app for users without a subscription, and that Yandex confirmed the change. The help pages now say so directly. Yandex's Russian-language help for the Windows app and the macOS app state that full use of the app, meaning download, upload and sync, requires a Yandex 360 plan. The English version of the help didn't mention the requirement when we checked in October 2026, so if you read Yandex's help in English, don't be surprised that it doesn't match what the app does.
In practice, without a plan the app only opens files that were already on your computer. New files from the cloud don't come down, and your local changes don't go up.
What didn't change: your files stay in the cloud, the web version works, and so do the mobile apps.
Using the official client with Yandex 360
If you're happy to pay, the official app is still the simplest way to get Yandex Disk on Mac or Windows. It supports Windows XP SP3 through Windows 11 and macOS 10.11 or later, according to Yandex's help.
Yandex 360 prices in USD from the international price list, at the time of writing (October 2026):
| Plan | Storage | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | 200 GB | $3.99 | $25.25 |
| Personal | 1 TB | $6.19 | $37.95 |
| Personal | 2 TB | $8.69 | $50.65 |
Family and Pro plans cost more. In Russia the ruble price list starts at 319 ₽ a month for 200 GB. Yandex often runs trial offers on the plans page, so the price you're shown when you sign up may be lower at first.
A paid plan also raises the web upload limit from 1 GB to 50 GB per file and unlocks WebDAV, covered next.
WebDAV on Mac and Windows
WebDAV lets your operating system show Yandex Disk as a network drive, with no Yandex software installed. Nothing is synced: files are read and written over the network when you open and save them.
Is it still free? No. Yandex's English WebDAV help page says: "Starting June 22, 2026, WebDAV access requires a Yandex 360 plan." The Russian help and Yandex's developer docs say the same. So WebDAV is an option for subscribers who don't want the sync client, not a free replacement for it.
What you need:
- The server address
https://webdav.yandex.ru. There's no separate.comaddress. - Your Yandex login.
- An app password, not your main password. Create one in Yandex ID under Security, then App passwords, and pick the WebDAV type. Yandex shows it only once, and a new app password can take 2 to 3 hours to start working.
On a Mac:
- In Finder, choose Go > Connect to Server, or press Cmd+K.
- Enter
https://webdav.yandex.ruand click Connect. - Enter your Yandex login and the app password.
The Disk mounts as a volume in Finder's sidebar. Finder writes its .DS_Store and ._ files to network volumes, so you'll see them in the web version too.
On Windows 11:
- Open File Explorer, go to This PC and choose Map network drive (it may be under the "…" menu).
- Pick a drive letter, enter
https://webdav.yandex.ruas the folder and tick "Connect using different credentials." - Enter your login and the app password.
Things to watch for:
- Deleted files skip the trash. Yandex's help says files deleted over WebDAV are permanently deleted and won't be moved to the Trash. Delete anything important through the web version instead.
- Windows' WebDAV client is deprecated. Microsoft lists the WebClient service among deprecated Windows features and notes it isn't started by default. It still works in Windows 11 as of October 2026.
- Windows caps file size. The WebClient service limits files to about 50 MB by default. You can raise the limit in the registry to about 4 GB, but not beyond.
We wrote a detailed step-by-step guide with fixes for common errors in Russian; the steps above are the short version.
rclone for power users
rclone is a free, open-source command-line tool that copies and syncs files between Yandex Disk, your computer and dozens of other clouds. It works on macOS, Windows and Linux, and it uses Yandex Disk's API rather than WebDAV.
Setup is short:
- Install rclone and run
rclone config. - Create a new remote and choose
yandex. - Leave client_id and client_secret blank, and rclone opens your browser to sign in to Yandex.
- Use commands like
rclone ls,rclone copyorrclone sync.
If you want Yandex Disk as a drive letter or a folder, rclone mount does that. On Windows it needs WinFsp, on macOS macFUSE or FUSE-T.
Two caveats as of October 2026:
- 410 errors. Since October 11, rclone users have reported
410 Goneerrors when listing Yandex Disk folders (GitHub issue, still open at the time of writing). Users report that registering their own OAuth app at oauth.yandex.ru, instead of rclone's built-in one, works around it. Yandex may show a warning for apps from unverified developer accounts. - No official word on free accounts. Yandex doesn't publish separate API terms for accounts without a plan. Whether rclone works on a free account is down to user reports on a given date, not a guarantee.
rclone is the right tool for scripted backups and scheduled syncs. For dragging a few files around, it's a lot of setup.
Yandex Disk inside a file manager
The last route skips both the sync client and the network drive. A file manager connects to Yandex Disk itself and shows it as another location next to your local folders. Few Western apps do this, because Yandex Disk is mostly used in Russia and neighboring countries, but there are some.
- Air Explorer is a multi-cloud manager for Windows and Mac that lists Yandex among its services. The free version allows one account per cloud; Pro costs $42 for a lifetime license at the time of writing (October 2026).
- Double Commander, the free open-source dual-pane manager, added cloud drives including Yandex in version 1.2, listed under macOS only. The current version is 1.2.9.
- Total Commander with the Cloud plugin supports Yandex Disk on Windows. Version 2.93 moved Yandex uploads from WebDAV to the REST API.
- RaiDrive maps Yandex Disk to a drive letter on Windows, but on the free plan Yandex Disk is read-only; writing needs a paid plan, from $1.84 a month on a three-year term. There's no Mac version.
- CloudMounter and similar mounting tools reach Yandex Disk only through WebDAV, which now needs a Yandex 360 plan.
X-Filer
X-Filer is our app, so weigh this section accordingly. It's a file manager for macOS 12 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11 (x64 and ARM64), with Yandex Disk and Google Drive (My Drive) built in.
- You sign in through OAuth in your system browser. There's no Yandex app to install, no WebDAV and no app passwords.
- You browse, copy, move, rename and delete files, create folders and preview images and text with the Space bar, right in the cloud.
- Search goes through subfolders, and Copy Public Link gives you a link to share a file.
- Split view puts Yandex Disk in one pane and a local folder in the other, and you drag files between them.
- The interface is in English and Russian.
The honest limits:
- Yandex Disk isn't mounted in Finder or Explorer. It opens inside X-Filer, and files move to Finder or Explorer by drag and drop or the clipboard.
- No offline access to cloud files.
- Yandex doesn't say whether API access works for free accounts, and we won't promise it does. Test it on your own account first.
- X-Filer is pre-1.0. The Windows build isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn you on first run (More info, then Run anyway). The Mac build is signed and notarized.
It works without a Yandex 360 plan. We checked on October 19, 2026: two Yandex Disk accounts without a subscription are connected and working in X-Filer. Yandex publishes no separate API terms for free accounts, so this is our result on that date, not a promise from Yandex; we will update this page if it changes.
Managing local files in X-Filer is free forever, with no ads and no account. Pricing for cloud drives in X-Filer hasn't been decided yet.

- You only touch Yandex Disk now and then: the web version is free and enough.
- You have Yandex 360 and want a network drive without the sync client: WebDAV, keeping the trash caveat in mind.
- You script backups or syncs: rclone, with your own OAuth app if you hit the 410 errors.
- You want Yandex Disk next to your local folders in a file manager on Mac and Windows: try X-Filer, or Air Explorer if you also need many other clouds.
If you use Google Drive as well, our guide to using Google Drive without syncing covers the same choices for Drive.
FAQ
Is Yandex Disk free on Mac?
The storage is: every account gets 5 GB. The desktop app's download, upload and sync need a Yandex 360 plan since June 2026, according to Yandex's help. The web version at disk.yandex.com works on a Mac for free.
Is there an English version of Yandex Disk?
Yes. Yandex Disk's international site is 360.yandex.com/disk, and its help is available in English at yandex.com/support. The English help didn't yet mention the desktop app's plan requirement when we checked in October 2026.
What is the Yandex Disk WebDAV address?
https://webdav.yandex.ru, with your Yandex login and an app password. Since June 22, 2026 it requires a Yandex 360 plan.
What's the best Yandex Disk client alternative?
It depends on the job: the web version for occasional use, rclone for scripts and backups, and a file manager with Yandex Disk built in for everyday file work. If you need real sync with offline files, the official app with Yandex 360 is still the only supported option.
Bottom line
In 2026 the official Yandex Disk app and WebDAV both sit behind a Yandex 360 plan, and the web version is the only free route Yandex guarantees on Mac and Windows. rclone and file managers with Yandex Disk built in work through the API, which Yandex doesn't document separately for free accounts. If you want Yandex Disk in a file manager next to your local folders, on both Mac and Windows, download X-Filer and test it on your own account.
